David Arthur Jones was born September 11, 1954, to A. Robert and Margaret Jones in Danville, Illinois. After graduation from Danville High School, he continued his education at General Motors Institute, Danville Junior College, and Eastern Illinois University, earning a B.S. in Physics. Most of his career was spent as a quality assurance engineer in the manufacture of computer peripherals, munitions, and medical devices. While attending EIU, Dave met his future bride Pat. Their relationship developed through mutual participation in Christian Collegiate Fellowship, and they married on September 2, 1978. During 42 and a half years of marriage, they welcomed one daughter and four sons, and mourned the loss before birth of another son. Dave was overjoyed when he finally became a grandpa, and enthusiastically and deeply loved his five grandchildren. Dave served his church and the community in many ways throughout his life, ranging from holding office on the church board and in the PTA, teaching in the church and in Scouting, going on mission trips, and advocating for health and education-related measures in the state and nation. He was a lifelong Scouter, from Cub Scout to Eagle Scout and in adulthood. He mentored boys as a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Order of the Arrow Advisor, and Camp Chaplain, believing the useful skills and traditional values of Scouting were important in teaching boys to be men. Dave enthusiastically studied Scripture and deeply desired that all would come to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. To that end he took every opportunity to turn a conversation to faith matters by asking questions and sharing what he was learning. Dave suddenly passed from this life into God's presence on March 4, 2021, as he was struck and killed instantly while on a daily walk. He is survived by his wife Pat; children Michael (Sara), Laura (Joel), John, Ben (Emily), and Steven (Katie); grandchildren Elsie, Josie, Caleb, Gordy, and Oliver; sister Janice (John), brothers Scott and John (Sarah); nephews Matthew, Noah, Padgett, and Tristan; niece Ashley, and great- nephews Jared, Colton, Lukas, and Isaac.
