Madge E. Wegman, 89, formerly of Raymond and Watertown SD, died Jan. 10, 2014 at Bethesda Hospital in St Paul MN after a short illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at 2 p.m.at Woodbury Estates, Woodbury MN. An additional Memorial Service in Watertown SD and private burial at Prairie Valley Cemetery, Raymond, SD - will be held this coming spring. Madge was born February 24, 1924 to Howard and Edna Batteen Forsyth in Northville SD. The family later moved to Huron SD, where Madge graduated from Huron High School in 1942 and then attended Washington University in St. Louis MO. She completed her nursing training and joined the US Cadet Nursing Corps in 1944. On April 2, 1955, she married Harold R. Wegman of Raymond SD. They lived in Raymond for over 23 years - and then retired to their home on Lake Kampeska in Watertown SD where she was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Madge started work as a nurse at Barnes Hospital in St Louis, then moved back to work at the Huron Clinic in Huron SD. She later taught school in Raymond and finally finished her career as a census taker with the US Gov't. Madge was active in the Raymond American Legion Baker Post 209 Auxiliary as well as the Republican Party in SD. She received her private pilot's license in 1964 - and enjoyed traveling all over the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand with her husband, spending winters together in Honolulu for over 25 years. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an excellent hostess to friends and relatives who traveled to Hawaii or Lake Kampeska for a visit. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 2003; her parents and brothers, Paul and John Forsyth. Madge is survived by Brother in law, Herb Janice Wegman, Raymond SD, Sister-in laws, Patricia Flanagan Forsyth - Northfield MN and Lorraine James Schubloom - Mesa AZ, nephews, Bruce Nicky Forsyth - Hanover MN, Robert Barb Wegman - Raymond SD; nieces, Kathryn Paul Wise -Northfield MN, Michele Paul Patnaude - Maplewood MN, Janelle Brian Stroh - Lakeville MN, and Jean Doyen - Watertown SD, close friend and cousin, Earl Batteen Aiea, HI, as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
