Patrick "Pat" James Shanesy

Patrick “Pat” James Shanesy left this earth on Tuesday, August 18th while listening to Beethoven, his favorite composer.

Pat was born April 3, 1931 to Earl and Margaret Shanesy. His parents preceded him in death as well as his two brothers, Tom and Dan and his sister Sharon Shanesy Stutelberg. His loving wife, Therese, passed in 2017.

Pat grew up in Robbinsdale where he developed his love for golf. After high school he joined the United States Army, eventually spending his career working for the Army as a Budget Analyst. In the fall of 1970, he married Therese Motherway embarking on an adventurous 47- year marriage. They lived in Germany for 8 years, traveling the country and the European Continent. They retired in Minnesota in the late 1980’s where Pat continued to play golf. He attended the very first Vikings game at the Met Stadium in 1961 and maintained hope for each and every season. Occasionally, he may have placed a bet or two!

After the passing of his wife, Pat continued his life with gratitude. He found beauty in the simple things and taught us to care for ourselves and each other. He marveled at each birth of his great-great in-law nieces and nephews: Siene, Kierian and Lila Ritzer, Jayce Hams and Isla Chevrette, Harrison and Maggy Stoneburner, and Calvin and Charlie Hansen.

Pat and Therese were beautiful people and wonderful role models, teaching us to care for our loved ones and then to go have fun.

Pat is survived by countless nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as the great-great generation. He is also survived by his dear friend Sally Loefte and his sports betting friends, the Hutchinson brothers.

Pat will be dearly missed by the Motherway Clan: Pat Motherway, Kelley and Tom Stoneburner, Kate and Tom Ritzer, Michael and Teri Motherway, Mary and Paul Voigt, Sara and Dean Uitenbogerd and Trang Motherway

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, September 3rd at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church (398 W Superior St, St. Paul) at 10:00 am, with a gathering to follow.
